Corporate of graphic design

Combination of color schemes, designs, words, etc., that a firm employs to make a visual statement about itself and to communicate its business philosophy. It is an enduring symbol of how a firm views itself, how it wishes to be viewed by others, and how others recognize and remember it. Unlike corporate image (which is 'in there' changeable mental impression), corporate identity is 'out there' sensory-experience conveyed by things such as buildings,  logo, name, slogan, stationery, uniforms, and is largely unaffected by its financial performance and ups and downs in its fortunes. Corporate-identity is either strong or weak (not positive, negative, or neutral like a corporate image) and is more or less permanent unless changed deliberately. The identity of Apple computer, for example, as an innovative  firm has survived almost intact over about 30 years. But its image as a successful business has dimmed and brightened several times during the same period.

Advertising is a non-personal form of promotion that is delivered through
selected media outlets that, under most circumstances, require the marketer to pay for message placement. Advertising has long been viewed as a method of mass promotion in that a single message can reach a large number of people. But, this mass promotion approach presents problems since many exposed to an advertising message may not be within the marketer’s target market, and thus, may be an inefficient use of promotional funds. However, this is changing as new advertising technologies and the emergence of new media outlets offer more options for targeted advertising.

Book design

Book design is the art of incorporating the content, style, format, design, and sequence of the various components of a book.

Brochure

Brochure is a paper folded in thirds and has information on a certain place
  • A good brochure helps represent your business. If it is done professionally, then people will walk away with a good idea of your business.

It helps your potential customers to learn more about your business.

  • You can use them as marketing tools to gain new business.
  • Brochures can help you to spread the word about your business. People may not know about your business, but that can all change with a brochure.

    Billboard
Billboards are the oldest mass medium. The first standardized posters appeared in the 19th century and, not surprisingly, the medium has adapted over time. What was once a poster on the side of a building became a freestanding, purpose-built billboard. Hand painting on a sign became printed paper pasted on the board. Paper and paste is giving way to computer-generated images on plastic substrates. Today, the next generation of billboards is digital.

    Posters
Many people would argue that poster advertising is a dying art form, but it can be very effective in some industries. Poster advertising is most commonly used in entertainment to inform the public of the latest act or event held at a popular arena. Grocery stores and politicians may also use posters to advertise. Poster advertising is effective in attracting visitors walking or driving in a high-traffic area.

    Greeting cards

When the designs are approved to for production, graphic artists and technical production assistants are key to translating original artwork and scrawled words into a pleasing, coordinated product that can be mass produced.Graphic designers might re-size artwork to make it fit a card, add color underneath or on top, combine images with appropriate typefaces for the verse inside, etc. The graphic designers must understand the capabilities of the printing machines and use only those numbers of colors that can be successfully and economically printed. Artwork, transparencies, etc. and verse are united in a mock-up that is approved for further development. When approved, all the specifications for the approved card—everything from the illustration on the front to  and price on the back—are scanned or input onto a computer disk and sent to the printer.

  • Line- A mark made with length and direction.  In terms of art, line can be described as a moving dot.  Line is perhaps the most basic element of drawing.
    • Lines can be used to divide space and direct the viewers eyes.
    • Lines can be used to separate content.
    • Lines direct the flow of content.
    • Can be used to create emphasis on a specific area of your work.

Shapean element of art that is a two-dimensional area that is defined in some way.  A shape may have an outline around it or you may recognize it by its area.

Value- The degree of lightness and darkness. Element of art associated with the darkness or lightness of a color

Mass- Mass is one of the basic elements of design. Mass equals  to size. Each piece you create has a physical mass. Additionally, each element within the design have their own mass relative to the whole piece. Part of working with mass in desktop publishing is understanding how we measure the various parts of a design such as paper, type, and images.

Texture- An obvious and important element in a painting. To save confusion it can be broken into two parts.
Physical Texture is the texture you can actually feel with your hand. The build up of paint, such as layering of collage . All the things that change the nature of the papers surface.
Visual Texture is the illusion of physical texture, created with the materials we use. Paint can be manipulated to give the impression of texture.

Color_An interesting element of graphic design because it can be applied to any other element, changing it dramatically. It can be used to make an image stand out, to show linked text on a website, and to evoke emotion. Graphic designers should combine their experience with color with an understanding of color theory.

  • Pattern-A regular arrangement of alternated or repeated elements(shapes, line, colors)or motifs.
Contrast - the juxtaposition of different elements of design.
(For example: rough and smooth textures, dark and white value)
in order to highlight their differences and creative visual interest, or focal point

Emphasis-Special attention given to one part of art(For example, dark shape in a light composition) Emphasis  can be achieved through placement, contrast, color, size, repetition...

    relates to focal point .
Proportion-The relationship between objects with respect to size, number ,and so on, including the relation between parts of whole.

Harmony-The arrangement of element to give the viewer the feeling that all the parts of the piece form a coherent whole.

Balance- A feeling of balance results when the elements of design are arranged symmetrically or asymmetrically to create impression of equality in weight or importance.

Rhythm/movement- The use of recurring element to direct the movement of the eye through the artwork. There are rhythm:random, regular , alternating , progressive and flowing. The way the elements are organized to lead the eye to the focal area. Movement can be directed for example, along edges and by means of shape and color.
